Just think for a moment - would you trust someone to do a new haircut for you who has never done any hairdresser's training? Would you visit a dentist who has not got any medical qualification? Would you board on a plane with a pilot with no pilot licence?

Humanitarian assistance and saving people's lives during disasters isnt different. Effectiveness of emergency response depends on the preparedness and skills of the humanitarian aid workers. They need to understand not only humanitarian principles and practice and to learn very technical skills in the areas of hygiene and sanitation, nutrition, shelter and logistics etc, but also know about aid project management and staying safe and sane when helping others.

With this 50km challenge i would like to 1) test my own limits and strength as i plan to complete this walk in 8 hours or less, 2) raise awareness about humanitarian work and importance of disaster preparedness through training, 3) give a little help to my charity in these harsh times of austerity.

My aim is to raise at least 500GBP so please be generous! :)
