River Monster March · 22 May 2012

We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

Story

Updated 24th September...many thanks to all that donated in support of the River Monster March.  The weather forecast was very bad and that probably kept people away.  However it didnt start raining until 12:30 so those that came had a nice walk along the river.  Many thanks to Bob Wake for putting together the treasure hunt.

Nice 79 mile cycle today for TCT meeting colleagues from Haverhill. What a nice day for a cycle with friends. Thanks John for organisation.

Update 21st June...as well as organising the the River Monster March (see below) my son Christopher and I will be doing the Oxford to Guildford 60 miles cycle on 22nd June. Should be great fun.

Any contributions to our chosen charity is very much appreciated. Best of all it will be great to see as many friends as possible to walk and talk with on the RMM. Please come if you can.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

On Sunday 23rd September everyone is welcome to take a walk along the lovely River Chelmer.

We will meet in Heybridge Basin free car park at 10:00 and you will be provided with 3 alternate routes. You can walk 3 miles, 9 miles or the full 14 miles return from Paper Mill Lock (or anything in between).

Also provided will be a Nature Treasure Quiz to keep the parents amused along the way and there will be gifts for the children.

You can take a picnic or have lunch at the Old Ship Pub in Heybridge or at Paper Mill Lock.

The sea lock at Heybridge Basin is interesting with lots of small boats coming and going and then from Beeleigh Lock west to Paper Mill Lock it’s just so quite and peaceful.

If you do the full 7 miles to Paper Mill Lock you can stop for tea and the best cake in Essex at the little café converted from the old stables. The owner will never give you her cake recipes…I have asked many times!.

The river was used for 200 years by horse towed canal barges bringing wood from the sea to Chelmsford. There are signs of this history all along the route. Click the link below for more information…

If you can make a donation at the start of our walk or via this Just Giving web site to the Teenage Cancer Charity fund that would be great. I hope you can come along, its always good to walk and talk with colleagues, friends and families outside of the work environment. At the same time supporting a worthwhile charity.

Apart from the start time nothing is fixed so you can walk as far as you want and organise with colleagues, friends and family when and where you will have lunch.

Hope you can come.
We will meet in front of the Old Ship pub at 10:00
