Story

Dearest friends, family and colleagues,

This is the beginning of something big, so please stay with me!

I can walk for hours, probably even days, but running has never been my thing. Yet here I am: not only committed to run 10k in full public view, but to do so under 1 hour!

I do this because I believe that with the power of mind and determination anything can be done. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is, like many other humanitarian organisations, facing many challenges. Yet, it continues to deliver relief and assistance to millions of people around the world who are unable to meet their very basic needs due to circumstances outside their control: war, poverty, discrimination, marginalization, inequality, injustice, abuse of power, and so on. I admit that I often wonder if the little things we do make any difference when the problems are so deeply rooted into systems, politics and mentalities that are all very corrupt and interest-driven. It is ok if you have the same thoughts but try to push them aside, just for a little while, because it is in the most sinister of times that the principles of humanity and solidarity reach their highest value!

Therefore, open up your heart (or wallet) and stay with me. On the 27th of May, I will be running at around 10km/h (subject to change at the runner’s discretion) for about one hour. I could of course run at 20km/h and win the whole thing but then, at such a high speed, not everyone might be able to see me in my beautiful yellow IRC t-shirt. Please come, see and support me on the 27th if you can or support the work of IRC by donating what you can here and now. Do it for me, for IRC, for god karma, for world peace or perhaps to atone for all your sins of 2012 – there are no bad reasons for doing the right thing!

Love,

Sara

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
