We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

Before Teenage Cancer Trust was founded in 1990, there was no specialist cancer care for young people offered within the NHS.  Now there are 28 specialist units, 27 expert nurses and 23 youth support staff based at NHS hospitals across the UK, offering young people with cancer the very best care and support from the moment they are diagnosed.

Our local specialist unit is based at Castle Hill Hospital for 18-24 year olds and has 4 in-patient beds. All bedrooms are equipped with soft furnishings, bespoke furniture, TV, DVD and gaming facilities and dedicated Teenage Cancer Trust Wifi with laptops.

The unit was opened in December 2011.  This unit is the first shared care facility developed by Teenage Cancer Trust, providing shared care with St James' Hospital in Leeds.

Teenage Cancer Trust fund 2 expert staff at this unit and they ensure the best possible quality care is given so that the young person is treated as a young person first and cancer patient second.

£20 could pay for an hour with a youth support worker - these skilled staff keep young people active, encourage them to socialise and help them gain some control over their illness.

£50 could pay for 2 hours with an expert nurse - young people with cancer can feel afraid and alone, but the specialist nurses are trained to understand the unique experience of being diagnosed when you're a teenager.

£100 could pay for a family support session - a diagnosis of cancer can turn a family's world upside down, but support from the trained network of professionals helps make a cancer diagnosis more bearable.

So every penny helps.
