Lands End to John O Groats · 1 September 2012

Acorns supports more than 800 children and over 1,100 families every year. The charity needs to raise £14 million each year to provide its care services across hospices and community settings. Your support means Acorns can continue to be there for local families facing the unimaginable.

Story

GREETINGS! And welcome to my JustGiving page.

In 2007 my Dad - at the handsome age of 67 - cycled from Lands End to John O'Groats (LeJoG) to raise money for Acorns Childrens Hospice. A feat of which we are all hugely proud. He was due to repeat the challenge in 2009 when sadly he was diagnosed with lung  cancer.

So in a fit of ... something (!) .. i decided that i would rise to the challenge and have a go myself!

As someone who hasn't cycled since Uni - and someone who isn't shaped like a whippet (which i believe to be the optimum cyclist shape!) i have started to train and as i do so the i have started to realise what a long way it is from the bottom of Cornwall ... to the tip of Scotland!!!

Seriously - i'm going to be pedalling 1050 miles ... over hill over dale etc etc and as i study maps all i see is how many hills there are in this green and pleasant land of ours!!! 1050 Miles.... come on - that's a long way on something that hasn't got an engine! To be honest it's a pretty long journey in something that has got an engine!!!

Prior to this i thought that cycling 25 miles was impressive..... and i had no idea how normal it was for hills to go on for miles... oh how things are changing ... did you know that hills of 4-5 miles long are common! Thats a lot of uphill!!!!

Surely an extraordinary feat like this has to be worth an extraordinary level of sponsorship eh?

I've set my target for fundraising high as Acorns are an amazing charity and i'd really love to raise something significant for them! And in fundraising for them i have no shame ...  i encourage you to tell all of your friends of the crazy redhead who's cycling LeJoG in September and is in much need of sponsorship!!!

And now for the bit about JustGiving:

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So .... i have a couple of months to go .... my wardrobe is increasingly filling with day-glo lycra based gear (oh dear oh dear!!) ... and i fear i may become very dull as life becomes dominated by cycling ... and chasing sponsors .. if you want to shut me up - then chuck some money at me!

(As i said .. i have no shame!!)
