My story

Over the summer 2011 I spent some time at the Marich Pass Field Studies Centre in West Pokot, Kenya, conducting research for my final year dissertation at the University of East Anglia. I had a fantastic time and am extremely grateful to all the people who helped me with the work I was doing during my stay in Marich. I would not have enjoyed my stay as much as I did if it had not been for the incredibly friendly people of Marich Pass. Everyone had time to talk to me and made me feel very welcome. I hope that I will be able to go back there soon.

 

The Field Studies Centre runs a primary school and I was lucky enough to spend some time at the school which was a really fun and enjoyable experience. Friends From Marich Pass is a charity that is currently raising money to help build two more classrooms at the school. These are needed because at the moment there are not enough classrooms for the children at the school to finish primary education. This means that children must try and find a way to get to another town or village to finish school.

 

Even during the short period of time I spent in Marich, I was able to see the difference the Field Studies Centre and its school already make to the lives of local children; during times when food is expensive, the school still provides the children with lunch, ensuring that they get at least one good meal a day.

 

I am fundraising because I feel that it is vital that these classrooms are built, and I want to help a community who gave me the best summer of my life.

the charity's main aim is to assist Educational projects in west Pokot, kenya. Funda are used for equipment, teacher's wages,building projects and fee sponsorship. Small scale humitarian aid is also offered where funds are available.
