Iron Man · 24 June 2012

RSPCA Woodside rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes hundreds of neglected and abandoned animals each year. We receive no funding from the government or the central RSPCA, relying on the generous support of the public and local businesses to keep the centre running.

Story

Last year I took the plunge and decided it was high time to challenge myself further by competing in the Ironman France which takes place in Nice on the 24th June. For those of you who don't know this is a triathlon where the distances are 2.25m swim , a 110m bike and a 26mile run, the timer starts when the gun goes at the swim start and stops when you cross the line at the end of the run.

Before I started my training I had never completed any of the distances individually let alone in one block. As of today, 18th May, I have biked the distance ( thank you to John my coach ) but still not yet covered the run or swim in one go. I have faith in my coach who assures me I will be fine :-)

This has been a massive committment in training hours for me (thank you to Bill for all his patience and support xx) , upwards of 18 hours in my peak weeks and it would be a shame not to mark this without raising some sponsorship for the RSPCA in Leicester.

So , pleasae dig deep, and donate to this  worthy cause - it will remind me to keep going when I hit those low moments and body and mind are flagging.

So, my first race of the season and my warm up for Nice was the Belvoir Half Iron man on the 25th May. We had gloriour weather so good also for Nice preparation. The swim was horrid - you could not see hand in fron of face in the black water , the ride was 3 loops of a hilly course and the run was 4 laps which also included and very annoying hill. All went well and I can in 5th in my age group and qualified , to boot , for tor the world champs long course next year !!!!

MY RACE NUMBER IS THROUGH - 183 - REALITY SETS IN !
