Virgin London Marathon 2013 · 21 April 2013 ·

When an adult or child has been diagnosed with a complex or incurable condition, Havens Hospices can provide the care they need, ‘Making every day count’. Our specialist Care Teams can support them in the comfort of their own home and through our hospices, Fair Havens and Little Havens.

Story

Based in Southend, Havens Hospices is a charity local to both myself and Jess and using the age old but appropriate cliché ‘charity begins from home’ we’ve decided to run this year’s London Marathon for Havens Hospices because we feel it’s the relatively small, local charities that really do benefit from fund raising events such as this.

Havens Hospices provide care, support and respite for those and their families who have received the news that their condition or illness is terminal.

Last year, my family was lucky because mum and dad both got diagnosed with cancer and in both cases the different types of cancers were caught early enough. So far we are travelling the road to recovery together without too many bumps- just a few bruises which will fade in time. Although mum and dad have been lucky, this luck hasn’t come without pain, discomfort and that unforgettable fear that I felt of losing either of both of them when they initially told me the diagnoses. From just those few moments of thinking the worst, I was given an insight into what the friends and family of people who aren’t so lucky are going through. Local charities like Havens Hospices are so very important to theirl communities, which is why Jess and I have decided to run 26 miles to raise at least £3,000 to help them continue their amazing work. From babies to grandparents, Little Havens Hospice and Fair Havens Hospice focus on the individual needs of the adults and children they care for, 'making every day count'. They also provide practical and emotional support for the friends and family of those who they are caring for and respite as well as bereavement support which is often needed.  The team at Havens Hospices’ are nothing short of amazing, so to run 26 miles really is a doddle compared to what they do every day of the year.

Please help us get to and hopefully exceed our target by donating whatever you can.
