I work as a midwife in Basildon. Last year a colleague, Perrine Stock,  joined our team while she was repatriated to the UK from Haiti due to the Covid 19 Pandemic. Now back in Haiti she is once again working as clinical director for the Midwives for Haiti team that is training and supporting staff in a bid to reduce the high maternal mortality/morbidity in the country. 

Recent events have made this very difficult. On 14th August  Haiti suffered an earthquake damaging much of the infrastructure , then two days later was hit by Tropical Storm Grace. It is in this context that Midwives for Haiti are continuing their work. 

We have a direct contact through our colleague Perrine and it is with this that I extend an heartfelt invitation to you all to make a donation - no matter how small. We are used to building works/ supply issues here in the UK, but imagine if the unit was ripped apart and all roads/ transport links were destroyed. With the worst maternal mortality in the Americas women/child health is now at greater risk.
