Story

The Ben Nevis Challenge

3rd October 2009

Most of you who know me well, know that the only sort of climbing I like to do is up the stairs in a Shopping Mall, and that is only if there isn’t an escalator!!  Well…………….. all that is about to change.

I have decided to climb Ben Nevis on behalf of Breast Cancer Care which as you may know is a charity close to both Mark and my hearts and many of yours as well I am sure.

Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the UK, rising to 1,344 metres (4,406 feet) amidst the hills in the Scottish Highlands.  The challenge will take one day to complete and I have persuaded Mark to walk with me on the proviso that he doesn’t abandon me to walk with a faster group!  In all there will be about 200 people walking that day on an event organised by Breast Cancer Care so hopefully I won’t be the slowest……..

When I told Alexandria that Daddy and I had definitely been accepted for the walk, her first reaction was “I don’t have to come do I?”  Her second was “Mummy, have you thought this through???”  When I had stopped laughing and asked her what she meant, she reminded me that I was scared of heights!  I had actually forgotten that fact in my eagerness to do something momentous in my 40th year – well I guess that’s another challenge there too then!

So, in order for me to be able to take part in this walk, I have to raise the vast sum of £500 (but hopefully more than that of course).

Please, please could everyone give generously.  This is not going to be an easy task for me but I am determined to succeed and knowing you are all sponsoring me will be an added incentive to reach the top (and stagger back down again!).

Thankyou for all your support.
