****UPTATE****
****I have now completed my run and am truly overwhelmed by the amout of support I have received. It was hard going at times but having Jo in my thoughts got me through the tough bits, please helped to make all the pain worth while and help me to raise as much as possible for Meningitis UK. ****
As some of you may be aware a close friend of mine was taken very suddenly by Meningitis last December. Jo was such a huge personality, who I miss every day.
Last May after I did a charity bike ride Jo asked me what my next crazy challenge was going to be, I told her I was planning on running 120miles along the Grand Union Canal over 2 days. Jo laughed at me and said ' That's just mad but I know you'll do it!'
I have decided to run in Jo's name and after speaking with her parents decided to raise money for Meningitis UK to help raise vital funds to find a vaccine to rid us of this crule disease. I would also like to say a huge thank you to The Critical Care Unit at Walsgrave Hospital who looked after Jo in her last moments. I was lucky enough to visit Jo and say goodbye and see first hand the great work that the Nurses in the CCU do. Seeing how upset we were one of the Nurses took the time to fully inform us what was going on and what would happen to Jo when she was taken down for Organ donation. Even after Jo was declared as Brain Dead, they carried on treating her with the dignity and respect that she deserved.
I would love to raise enough money to give a good sum of money in Jo's name.
Please support me by donating whatever you can, this is going to be the hardest physical challenge I have ever taken on and knowing that I have managed to help raise money in memory of such an amazing person will be a big part of what gets me through the tough bits!
Thank you Xx
