Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

You'll know I'm a cycling addict and concern myself with environmental efforts and so, amazingly, I have recently discovered a great way to combine these two passions...and all whilst raising money for a very worthwhile charity...

I have just signed up to participate in the London to Paris Cycle Ride, in support of the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF). The journey is 300 miles over 4 days, and should be a great challenge!

The fun part of participating with the EJF team, is that we are cycling with a fashion-style-savvy theme (which means dress up will be the order of the day, though I have not yet decided quite what style to adopt...suggestions are welcome!). This links into their work addressing human rights abuses in the fashion industry.

EJF are an amazing charity making a real difference with their campaigns...there are two particular areas which I feel really strongly about...

In fashion, with their 'Pick Your Cotton Carefully' campaign EJF works to address the fact that around the world (whether it is state enforced, or child trafficking), millions of children face severe exploitation in the cotton industry. EJF also campaigns for a global ban on the most toxic pesticides used in cotton production, which in total kill over 20,000 people a year. The success of EJF's work has rocked the industry, firmly placing these issues under the spotlight. This has led to dramatic policy change in some of the world's biggest buyers of cotton, but there's still more work to be done!

And secondly, their most recently established campaign 'No Place Like Home' about climate change and climate refugees...by 2050 there will be an estimated 150 million climate refugees forced to leave their homes by drought, extreme weather patterns and sea level rise. There is no international law designed to protect their needs. We believe that there needs to be a legally binding, international protocol that identifies and protects these people displaced from their homes by deteriorating environmental conditions.

Hopefully with my pedal power I can change the face of fashion and climate change issues for the better! ;-)

So please dig deep and donate now...

Thanks in advance for your generosity!

About the charity

EJF works in some of the world's most difficult and remote countries to protect vulnerable communities, wildlife and wild places. Our campaigns have led to action on forced labour and human trafficking, national and global bans on deadly pesticides and arrests of illegal 'pirate' fishing trawlers.
