Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Me and my Mum have decided to run the Milton Keynes half marathon for the Alzeimers Society, as we have an Auntie who has dementia, and is currently being cared for in a Bupa Home. We have seen first-hand how debilitating the illness is. Our Auntie has gone from an inspiring teacher, helping others, to being waited on hand and foot, unable to move, talk or eat. It is such a degrading illness and she will spend her last days being cared for.

Recently whilst visiting relatives in hospital, we have noticed many patients suffering with dementia, not knowing what or where they are, and failing to identify their own family members.

Dementia is one of the main causes of disability in later life, ahead of Cancer, Cardiovascular disease and stroke, and one in three people over 65 will die with dementia. Over 700,000 people have Dementia in the Uk, and by 2025 this figure is expected to rise to over 1 million. It is not a natural part of ageing, and is caused by diseases of the brain that destroy people of their normal lives. So please help us by donating now!
