An memory of cement mixing... cough up dear friends · 16 May 2012

We work around the world to lessen the physical and emotional impact caused by climate disasters and humanitarian crises. Through direct action, accessible volunteer engagement and strong partnerships, we support communities to respond to, recover from, and build resilience against disasters.

Story

A post fundraiser for the work I did in Haiti and the Philippines...

As you may or may not be aware, I'm currently travelling. Thus far on this world tour, I've volunteered in Haiti and in the Philippines, doing relief and development work, getting very dirty on construction sites, and generally having a whale of a time. Each experience was with a truly fantastic organisation called All Hands. I cannot even hope to accurately describe the incredible experience that I had each time I worked with this group... so just go ahead and look at their website (http://hands.org/), or look at my photos from each place (http://www.facebook.com/sarah.pugh.7/photos - they'll give you a pretty good idea of the incredible time I had)...

I set up a justgiving page before going to Haiti, and thanks to some wonderfully generous people, was able to raise over a $1000 for the organisation. However, All Hands is currently in a bit of a financial pickle due to the ongoing, unforgiving financial climate, and so they've asked all their ex-volunteers to try and fundraise further if they can.

I'm not asking people who have already donated to do so again, you were generous the first time, and that is more than enough for me. But if you never quite got round to donating before, or if you know people you could pass the message on to, then please please do so... now.

I've set up this event to run until the 15th of July... my 25th birthday. If you'd consider coming to a birthday party, buying me a birthday drink or a present, or even just giving me a birthday hug, you can't this year, because I'll be in Burma. So instead, please please PLEASE donate to this wonderful organisation, and allow them to keep on helping disaster-devastated communities in need, and to keep on supporting the efforts of international volunteers (some of the best people I have ever had the good fortune to meet).

Thank you all x
