Thanks for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page.

We're organising a range of events over the year in a bid to raise £3000 for St Lukes Hospice, we hope you'll be able to come along and enjoy some of the events which we'll advertise here.

Rob: Completed a cycle from from Lands End to John O'Groats starting in May 2010. He covered about 1020 miles in 10 days!  Doing over 100 miles per day on consecutive days was a huge challenge full of aches, pains and numbness (yes, that's numbness in the 'gentleman's area'!).  Neverthless the End to End was something he'd always wanted to do and thanks to all of you he raised a huge amount of money for St Lukes.

You can revisit his training and blog of the journey by visiting: http://robappleyard.blogspot.com/

We have both worked in the field of cancer and education for all of our professional careers and currently work in the Radiotherapy & Oncology team at Sheffield Hallam University. The university works as a Collaborative Partner with St Lukes Hospice to deliver post graduate education for health care professionals, so that brought us together, but we've also had friends use the services of the hospice and believe this is a great organisation to support.

Did you know?...

St Luke’s annual running costs are now nearly £7million and only about a third comes from

government funding. This means the Hospice needs to raise over £4 million each year through

donations, legacies and special fund raising events. Total running costs for the Hospice are £758 an hour 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

Admission to St Luke’s is dependent purely on the medical, nursing and psychological

needs of the patient – money is not an issue, all services are provided completely free of

charge.

St Luke’s has a Community Specialist Palliative Care Nursing team. The team visit and

care for patients in their own homes for part of or the entire course of their illness. Last year

the team took on 928 new patients, made 5,634 home visits and 6,996 telephone calls.

St Luke’s has a very active Bereavement Department. For the year ending March 2008 872

telephone contacts were made, 38 home visits and over 241 counselling sessions. Most of

this contact is made by the bereavement volunteers.

Drop In groups for bereaved people to meet socially happen fortnightly throughout the

year, and last year there were 906 attendances.

Anything you can give will be very much appreciated, here are just some of the ways your money will go to work:

£10 - An aromatherapy Treatment for a patient

£25 - One Hours Care

£50 - One Home Visit by the Specialist Palliative Care Team

£100 - 24 Hours Holistic Care
