Bupa Great North Run 2014 · 7 September 2014 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

How do I write this without getting over emotional?

In 2004, the year I got married, my mum started showing signs that things weren't quite right, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s the following year at the very young age of 58.

Things most of us take for granted disappeared quicker than we expected; talking, walking, basic movement, feeding yourself. Running? Definitely not! Exactly 20 years ago my mum ran the Great North Run. This year I am doing it with the support of my running partner Cathy.

Alzheimer’s has not only taken away all of these physical capabilities. It has taken so much more. There is nobody’s memory that I crave more. There is no better reason for me to run and raise money for the Alzheimer’s charity. I hope you can support me. Dig deep folks! x
