Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
September the seventeenth is my 75th Birthday! So please help me celebrate the day I get my free television licence. Yes, I'll have a little party (on the 19th) for those who can come, but please don't bring me any presents! But if you would like, please help a really good cause, and one which doesn't get as much publicity as it should. For the past few years I've been actively supporting the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture. This is the only charity which is entirely concerned with helping those who are trying to rebuild their lives after the most horrific experiences. MF is a registered charity no. 1000340 and is 95% reliant on fundraised income. Clients come from all over the world, and are mainly, though not always, recent refugees. They include men, women and children who often remain traumatised after many years. Sadly, many struggle to convince the authorities of the awfulness of their experiences and are often not believed. After all, just telling people about the experiences you have tried to bury even from yourself is a frightful and often incoherent experience. The MF has centres in London, Glasgow, Manchester and Newcastle, where doctors and therapists help them to recover. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now. If you would prefer not to give your name, please call yourself 'anonymous' or 'tiddlypush', or 'Uncle Tom Cobley' or whatever.
