Many of my friends already know about the illness my nephew Jaik has suffered with. For those that do not know, Jaik was a normal 8 year old boy who loved playing on his X-Box, loved playing football and had not long joined a local football team. This was until he suffered with an AVM (Arteriovenous Malformation) in his brain. This is an abnormal blood vessel that all of a sudden bursts. He would have had this from birth with no signs or symptoms.
One day it did burst and on this day he was transferred to Sheffield Children's Hospital to undergo brain surgery to stop the bleed. He has been there 16 weeks now and seven operations. Unfortunately Jaik has been left severely disabled with extensive brain damage. He has had to have part of his skull removed, has had a tracheostomy and has just had a peg feeding tube inserted into his tummy. Jaik is one of many children that are seen on a daily basis at the hospital.
As a family we have been left devastated, you never think this will happen to you or your family.......BUT IT CAN!
The hospital has provided excellent care to Jaik and unbelievable support to my Sister, Jaik's Mum. She was given a room in their Tree Top Accommodation, so she is able to stay with Jaik. We do not live in Sheffield and therefore saved unnecessary worry to his parents at the worst time.
For everything that has been given to my family in the way of support and care, I would like to Raise some funds for this fantastic charity to enable the hospital to keep providing the level of care and more. It is unbelievable how much this means to families.
I am going to complete a 15,000 ft Skydive, I will be footing the cost of the skydive myself, so every penny raised will go to the charity. Even more my employer will match my funds raised up to £500.00. More reason to dig deep. I will be completing this Jump with my sister Kelly and friend Stacey Baker.
