This is Sarah and we are the Copers Cope and Shortlands Safer Neighbourhood Teams from Bromley in Kent. Sarah is the daughter of a friend and PCSO colleague Victor. Sarah is your normal bubbly 11 year old, she is always making us laugh and brightens our day when she visits. Except Sarah has Cystic Fibrosis.

Cystic Fibrosis is on of the most common hereditary life=threatening diseases in the UK. It affects the lungs and digestive system. Common colds become a time of great worry and the body often struggles to process food properly, a particular problem for children when the body needs all the nutrients it can get. There is not currently any cure for Cystic Fibrosis but the Trust are looking into better ways of dealing with the illness and help support families to deal with everyday living.

Sarah has just recently spent several weeks in hospital again, undergoing daily physiotherapy sessions and continued medication. Frustrating for anybody but especially for a popular and energetic little girl who just wants to be out with her friends and enjoying the Summer to come. As Police Officers and Community Support Officers we face many different challenges but Sarah's continued courage and strength puts us to shame.

We decided we would like to brighten Sarah's day for a change and get her a laptop that she can use in hospital to keep in touch with her friends. In recognition of Sarah's daily battle we decided that our money raising should challenge us. And so on 28th May in between shifts we will be cycling 480 miles in 24 hours.
