Story
Hi all,
Thank you again for taking the time to take a look at my page. As part of the high I felt after running the London Marathon last year, I signed myself up to do it all over again this year! It was a fantastic experience and one that I hold close to my heart so much so I want to do it all over again.
I am running this years marathon for a charity somewhat more personal. As you all know I lost my mum 3 years ago to a rare disease known as Haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), so rare infact, it affects 1 in 50,000 people. The disease affects the bodies white blood cells, causing them to attack the body when they should fight against disease. The effects of this disease are so agressive and rapid, mum was ill for just under 2 weeks. She was taken to The Royal Free, a liver specialist hospital in London where we were all under the impression they would treat her and she would be back home to us in no time. The charity was set up in 1991 to fund research projects into the disease.
Tragically, mum showed no progress, she took a turn for the worst and was put onto a life support machine. The disease lead to multiple organ failure.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this, it means a lot to me. I want to do as much as I can to raise awareness of this disease and make the charity known across friends and family.
Thanks again and hopefully see you all on the Sunday!!
