The spend a tenner challenge · 22 November 2009

Since 1998 Cecily's Fund has transformed the lives of thousands of the most vulnerable children in Zambia by enabling them to go to school. Education gives them a ladder out of the destitution to which they are otherwise condemned. Tragically Cecily died there in her gap year. This is her legacy.

Story

Possibly against our better judgement and together with some other friends, we are embarking on a 'Spend a tenner challenge' over the next seven days.  To raise money for Cecily's Fund, we will live off only £10 for the week; this will include food, drinks and discretionary expenditure - it does not include rent, household bills or travel. The rules clearly state that we are not allowed to stock up the cupboards/fridge in advance.  We will then donate the money that we would normally spend in a week to the charity and would be really grateful for any sponsorship.

Cecily's Fund is a UK registered charity, set up in memory of a friend's cousin, Cecily Eastwood, who was killed in a road accident whilst working in Zambia on her gap year.  The Oxfordshire-based charity does incredible work to enable the education of AIDS orphans and vulnerable children in Zambia.  We hope - between us all - to raise £2000.  This would be enough to pay for 80 children to go to school for a year. A single £25 donation therefore enables one child to go to school for a year.

Thank you very much for any support you can give; we really appreciate it!
