Story
I've not done any form of exercise really since 2004. Then I was convinced/tortured into doing the Spartan Beast in November 2013. Before I knew it I also agreed to do an olympic distance triathlon in Reading on 1st September 2013 and the Great North Run on 15th September 2013.
I've started the training, so i think I will probably finish, but it's still a significant challenge. Especially the Spartan Beast (a half-marathon assault course!)
I work as a Neurologist in Hampshire, and sub-specialise in Multiple Sclerosis. I know what impact this disease can have. It's chronically underfunded, and the information out there is often wrong or lacking.
In particular, young people are often affected by MS, and this can lead to difficulties in work, and in relationships. I have seen them bullied out of jobs, feel guilty about continuing to live with a partner, or giving up on the dreams. But it doesn't have to be.
I try to make sure that patients are well-informed, and get appropriate treatment at the right stage. Supporting this charity can make a difference. One day, I hope to be able to say to my patients that yes, they have Multiple sclerosis but this is what we will do to treat it, and they will go on to have completely normal lives.
