On November 15th 2012 we will join Professor Robert Winston's eleventh women-only challenge to fund groundbreaking medical research work at a major research centre in London. We will be cycling 400km over five days from Panama City to Nicaragua.
The Women for Women challenges raise funds to train female scientists and clinicians to work at the centre, empowering more women to lead in the field. They will work to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a range of devasting conditions which cause genetic diseases, miscarraige, premature birth, brain damage and ovarian cancer. The fundamental aim is to improve women's health and to ensure that more women have a normal pregnancy with a healthy baby.
The first challenge we faced was that until a few months ago I had never riden a bike, but after many patient hours of coaching from the lovely Kat Taylor, I am now able to stay on the bike and avoid tree's, lamp posts, fences, children, dogs, stationery and moving vehicles and anyone else cycling with me.
We have moved on quickly and our now up to 20 mile training sessions something that seemed unimaginable some weeks ago. We will continue to train in all weathers and through all the fuzzy heads on Saturday and Sunday mornings because we believe passionately in what Women for Women do. They are empowering women to make a difference and working towards every woman being able to enjoy the most natural and beautiful experience of all - to give birth to a happy and healthy baby. Being a mother has changed our lives and if we can give that gift to just one more woman the bruises the cuts and all the walking like a cowboy will be worthwhile!!
So please help us by giving all you can, we really do appreciate it and will keep you updated on our progress.
