As many of you know, during 2009 we had the chance to spend most of the year traveling around the world. We had the fortune to visit Burma, a country that we were not sure if we should visit, but is now very close to our hearts. It is ruled by a Military dictatorship ... a Junta ... where human rights are abused and ordinary people have little in the way of freedom and human rights.
During our visit to Burma we came across many schools who used very outdated practices to teach; Teaching by repetition thanks to a mandate by the government. Very few Burmese citizens have access to further education. Some of our traveling companions, Lisa-Marie and Alessandro witnessed the army kidnapping teenagers from an ethnic minority to act as a human shield.
Prospect Burma has set up several educational schemes to help young people realise their dream of a free Burmese society. Their aim is to educate those who will spread their knowledge and skills back to Burma for its future development.
We both really beleive that, one day, Burma will be free of the Military Junta and that helping to provide an education for many Burmese now, will provide a better future for many.
