London to Paris · 3 May 2019

The charity was set up in memory of Roger Gower, who was shot and killed while flying an anti-poaching mission in Tanzania. Born to Fly is dedicated to saving wildlife through education. One community at a time.

Story

On 3rd May, nine of us (Jo, Ali/Alex, Ben, Tom, Ed,  Jim, Richard, David and Guy) from the Schottelvig clan (ably supported both back home and en route by our remaining family members) are set to cycle from London to Paris over 3 gruelling days to raise money for Born to Fly.

Born to Fly is a charity set up in memory of our great family friend Captain Roger Gower. Roger was a helicopter pilot who worked for many years in Kenya and Tanzania tracking elephant poachers and playing a big part in East African wildlife conservation. In 2016 Roger tragically died when his helicopter was shot down by a poacher he was tracking. Born to Fly raises money to develop schools in East Africa which provide vital education and skills training to children who otherwise have limited prospects of earning a livelihood and may be tempted to turn to poaching.
