TEAM TAKE ON 100K WALK FOR CHARITY
Ageing Ramblers Seeking End have signed up to take on the Ribble Way Challenge, which is a 100K walk in under 30 hours and are raising funds for national charity Sue Ryder.
The team of 4, Scott Ainge, Paul Gaskell, Martin Geldard and Adam Bell have been training to complete the 100K walk, which takes place on the weekend of the 18 – 19 June. The walk starts from the Ribblehead Viaduct in Settle, North Yorkshire and follows much of the River Ribble and retires at the Dolphin Inn, Longton in Preston.
They will be joining over a hundred people who will be setting off in the early hours on Saturday 18th June. The walkers will be assisted by event partners Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team who will be supporting walkers every step of the way.
Adam Bell, team walker from the A.R.S.E. said,
“We have been preparing ourselves for this challenge for some weeks. Our aim is to complete the course in less than a day, so that we can hopefully beat the rush at the Dolphin Inn. We are being assisted by Derek Ainge and John Geldard in a support vehicle (provided by Simpsons Skoda Preston, www.simpsonsskoda.co.uk), who will water, feed, encourage and bully us as appropriate.
We are also raising sponsorship and would like to raise £250 each. This means for every hour we walk the Ribble Way Challenge we could raise enough funds to provide a nurse during that hour for one of Sue Ryder’s Care Centres and Hospices.”
Sue Ryder Fundraiser and Event Organiser, Clare Richards said,
“This event is not for the faint hearted. The walkers have signed up for a long challenge ahead and they certainly deserve your support in sponsorship for confronting this challenge. The training participants undertake is enough for some people, so we are very grateful for their support in this event and to Sue Ryder. This year we hope the Ribble Way Challenge will raise in excess of £22,000.”
