<p> <p>On 12th May this year I will be embarking on an epic challenge to cycle 1000 miles from Lands End in Cornwall all the way to John O'Groats in Scotland! This challenge will take 2 weeks with an average of 71 miles per day, with some days being as long as 83 miles. This works out to around 7-8 hours in the saddle each day! The route encompasses some of the United Kingdom&rsquo;s most spectacular countryside and exhilarating cycling, and contains plenty of hills! (I will post the route map nearer the time to prove how hilly the UK can be!).</p> <p>As the ride is a huge personal challenge I am self-funding the event, but am also taking this opportunity to raise money and awareness for my local charity Magpas - The Emergency Charity, so you can be sure that every penny you donate is going straight to help the charity and not to pay for my experience. Magpas are a charity organisation that save lives throughout Cambridgeshire and East Anglia by providing rapid on the spot emergency care and are often first on the scene. They currently provide the only night time air ambulance service with fully trained paramedic and doctor on board in the UK and rely solely on donations from the public.</p> <p>Magpas have been saving lives for the past 40 years and have come to the rescue of over 50,000 people, but now they need our help. They receive no funds from the government or the national lottery and rely solely on donations from the kind hearted public. Please help this amazing charity by sponsoring me as much or as little as you can afford.</p> <p>To give you an idea of how some of their main costs break down:</p> <p>&bull; It&rsquo;s cost &pound;750k to fund Magpas in its entirety for one year, allowing them to attend around 950 patients</p> <p>&bull; Their Magpas and Police Helicopter costs &pound;250k per year - allowing them to fly to around 710 patients in need</p> <p>&bull; To purchase a new emergency land response vehicle, it would cost &pound;75k - allowing them to attend 240 patients on average by road</p> <p>&bull; It costs &pound;15k for the year - to finance the fuel and maintenance of their existing emergency land vehicle</p> <p>&bull; To provide two months of medical consumables, including lifesaving drugs, bandages and dressings - it would cost &pound;3k</p> <p>&bull; To buy five flame and chemical retardant uniforms and boots for Doctors and Paramedics, it would cost &pound;2.5k</p> <p>So please dig deep and donate all you can.</p> <div></div> </p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
