Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2004 my Grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Over the years I have watched the man who helped raise me deteriorate until he lost his fight with Alzheimer's in November 2011. I always told myself that everyday was a new day to him and the disease wasn't painful but the worst part of it all was when he did not recognise me anymore, just a take minute and think about not being able to remember your own family. I cannot change what has happened but I can help in raising awareness of the disease and help to raise funds for a scanning unit required by Researchers at the University of Aberdeen who are currently leading in the research of Alzheimer's.

I intend to do this by competing in three advanture races in 2012. Starting with the Spartan 5k assault course, followed by the Tough Mudder 11 mile assault course and finishing with the Scottish 105 mile Coast to Coast race over two days. I am also doing the Garioch half marathon and some other smaller races which I will post when entry has been confirmed.

I hope to rasie funds to contribute towards purchasing a Mass Spectrometer (scanning unit) which will optimise methods to highlight regions of cellular damage to improve patient care and disease management through early recognition of the disease. This therefore increases the chance of early intervention which would reduce suffering for both patients of their families.

"Life is to short to forget about it"

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
