Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are an intrepid and ever-changing group of riders from from 1st Felpham Sea Scouts and have participated in the Ride & Stride for the fourth year running. The sponsorship we raise is evenly split between the Sussex Historic Churches Trust and our own Parish Church, St. Mary's in Felpham. Last year we raised a total of £201.00. We were also runners-up in the team trophy for the number of churches visited. We hope to better both of these results in this year's event.
Our Rector, Fr. Timothy, who is our Scout Group's very own Chaplain, will be riding with us this year for the first time, and we hope to make a circular route of about 45 miles visiting every church along the way. We will be starting in Yapton after a night's camping, and hope to ride as far as Selsey & the Witterings, and back to Yapton on Saturday. We will release our riding rector at midday to conduct a wedding, and finish the day's ride with another night's camp at the Scout Hut in Yapton. On Sunday morning we will then proceed back to Felpham in time for the 11 o'clock service.
We hope to see you all at the Service!
update 14 September:
Well, we have done it!
We had such an excellent turn-out that we had to split the group in two. The senior team of 5 Scouts, a Young Leader and two Scouters rode about 48 Miles and visited a total of 21 Churches. They collected a total of 60 points. The junior team of 9 Scouts and two Scouters from Felpham was joined for half the day by three more Scouts from Ferring with their Leader and our very own Rector. After three hours they had ticked off 7 Churches. Fr. Timothy made a flying change-over with a German Scouter whom we had met during our Summer camp a few weeks ago on Brownsea Island, and went on to visit another 8 churches. The junior team collected 48 points and rode about 35 Miles.
Everybody gained their cyclist badge, worked towards their adventure challenge, and the campers also gained their expedition challenge.
We are now looking forward to next year's event.
update 16 December 2009:
