Story

STOP PRESS!

Just to let everyone know that unfortunately the Twin Towers event has been postponed till November.  I received the email this morning and read it a few minutes ago.  The reason is they want to increase the number of participants and allow them more time to reach their target.

I will know by next week when the exact date is and will update this page when I receive it.

Therefore, I'm going to extend this page out till the second week in December, so you can still donate if you want.  I can, however, refund you if you'd prefer.

Thanks to all those who have donated so far.

UPDATE - The Training:

Just thought I'd share the training I've been doing to get me in shape for this marathon task.

Last Sunday (2nd) I went for a run around Greenwich Park.  I'd previously made this trek with my sister some years ago and was out on my feet then.  This time though I was a little more prepared...

As you are all aware (because I probably bore you with it!) I'm up at 5:30am every day and on the Wii Fit for my days' training.  This will include stretching out with Yoga/Pilates followed by a 30 minute run.  My maximum time if I do both these disciplines is 57 minutes.  On my park run days I do the Yoga/Pilates only.

In addition to this I've been healthy eating (no, NOT dieting) for over a year now, lost the weight I was carrying around which wasn't doing my back any good, and ensured I eat at regular intervals and got a good nights sleep.

Anyway, enough of that...

My first run took 18 minutes - which wasn't bad for a first sojourn in many a year outdoors.  I followed this with a run up the steps to One Tree Hill, four times in total, to give me an idea of what lies ahead.  The walk back from the park was a little slower than I usually do but it gave my legs the warm down they needed.  Did I mention it was cold and raining that day?

On my second run (9/5) I decided to run around the park twice, to challenge myself and to see if I could make it, and luckily it wasn't as cold and raining.  This took 36 minutes.  I timed my first run and it was slightly shorter than last weeks and considering the total time it means I didn't slow at all on my second circuit.  After a brief respite I followed up with a run up One Tree Hills' steps.  This time I managed 6 ascentions/descentions before a felt a slight twinge in my left calf.

Next week I will be attempting an anti-clockwise run, which is a lot tougher!

THANKS TO ALL THOSE THAT HAVE DONATED SO FAR, BOTH ONLINE AND OFFLINE, AND I HOPE YOU'LL BE THINKING OF ME RUNNING UP ALL THOSE STAIRS IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS TIME.  :o)
