I contacted Deafness Research UK to explain my story and why I wanted to support their charity. 6 weeks later I received a response. They said that they would not only allow me to support them during the Edinburgh Marathon 2011, but they would also provide me a place on the London Marathon 2011! I was over the moon; however it now means I will be running 2 marathons in one month!

For those of you who know my girlfriend Emma, she has been involved with the Deaf Community since 2007. Emma was working in Foxfield School (a specialist school on Wirral) alongside my older sister. She supported many pupils who had a range of severe learning difficulties, which prevented the majority of pupils being involved in mainstream education and also society.

This experience inspired her to study and learn more about some of the children she worked with. She decided to sign up to an introduction to British Sign Language course in Ysgol Bryn Alyn. The more she learnt about sign language, the more she wanted to do more for the deaf community. In 2009, Emma left her job to become a mature student at University of Central Lancashire studying a British Sign Language degree. Throughout her studies she frequently meets and supports the deaf community in Preston and has made a lot of new friends who are deaf or have close family who are. Her qualification will enable her to pursue a career in the future to support students who are profoundly deaf in mainstream education.

Please, please, please support me and my charity, it would really mean the world to me.
