The Semillons 2010 · 8 July 2010

Everyman is an appeal run by The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR). Every year some 10,000 men lose their lives to prostate cancer and over 2,000 others have their world turned upside down by a diagnosis of testicular cancer. These men are the reason we are fundraising for male specific cancers.

Story

The Semillons, founded in 2005, are a group of wine professionals and journalists who are prepared to bravely flaunt their flesh to raise money for a very important cause.  To celebrate their 5th anniversary The Semillons are back with a new line up and a new show that promises to be bigger, better and even more full of surprises!

Our fundraising event is taking place on the 8th July (find out more/get your ticket at www.Semillons.co.uk) but if you can't make it please consider donating to Everyman here.

The following members of the wine trade will be up on stage baring all (or almost all):

Andrew Shaw – wine buyer, Waitrose

Tim Atkin MW – wine writer, The Times

Michael Cox – director, Wines of Chile

Gearoid Devaney – private sommelier

Barry Dick – wine buyer, Sainsbury’s

Anthony Rose – wine writer, The Independent

Rupert Ellwood – managing director, Vinopolis

Michael Palij MW – importer, Winetraders

Guy Woodward - the editor of Decanter

Charles Metcalfe - broadcaster, writer

While the Semillons have been busy working on getting those hips moving, we have been secretly filming them, and we are pleased to give you a sneak preview of the rehearsal; go to http://www.vimeo.com/12976233

Why are we supporting Everyman?

 - To raise awareness and break taboos surrounding prostate and testicular cancer

- Prostate cancer kills one man an hour in the UK, with 35,000 men diagnosed each year. It is the most common cancer in men

- Testicular cancer affects men between the ages of 15 and 44, but is now 99% curable if caught early enough

- Research into male cancers is severely under funded and is said to be 10 years behind research into some other cancers 95% of the total donation from this event will go directly towards life-saving research

- To raise funds so scientists can carry out research vital to improving the outlook for every man and stamp out male cancer forever
