Story

Target reached! Previous pledges to help have now been realised and so the funding for this building project is now completed.

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has helped make this possible. The new school has now opened, with enough of the facilities completed on time for the start of the new academic year. We are still finishing off several essential projects at the school to ensure it is equipped and functioning properly. There is still much to do so please read on for details of the building project or click here for details of the current small projects we are working on. And of course, any financial help is much appreciated .... any further donations made on this page will not go wasted but will used 100% for the school.

Welcome to our fundraising appeal web page, launched in September 2010 for our current project in Uganda. We are building a new facility for the Wobulenzi Town Academy, a secondary school set up for orphans and disadvantaged children. The school currently rents a collection of buildings nearby but suffers from severe overcrowding, poor facilities and a lack of fresh water on site.

The new site will provide 600 students with a safe and secure living environment as well as fresh water, better dormitories and washroom facilities. Education will be extended up to A-level standard and there is the provision of computer and science labs for the first time.

Building at the new site started in Febraury 2010 and we are due to finish by 7th February 2011 when the new academic year starts - a very tight build programme! The new school is starting to look great as it takes shape and we would like to say a big THANK YOU to all of you who have helped either financially or physically on site.

The total budget for this building project is just £100,000. ServeDirect has no paid staff or offices, and the project model is unique in Uganda. By using local craftsmen and materials with improved engineering principles along with a tight cost control, our build costs are approximately 20-30% of similar aid developments. In addition, the local community benefits are considerable.

Building started in February 2010 and most of the structures have now been built, but £60,000 was needed to complete all the buildings, the fittings and finishings. Most of this has now come in but as you can see we still need your help. Please do not delay if you are going to donate as we need the money now.

100% of all monies received by the charity through this fundraising appeal will go direct to the project on the ground in Uganda. For more information contact jerry@servedirect.org or nick@servedirect.org

Please see our website http://www.servedirect.org for all the latest information, blogs, photos showing progress on site and for other ways to get involved.

Donating online through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving. Once you donate, the money is sent directly to the charity and Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

Any cheques should be made out to our partner charity 'The Dugdale Charitable Trust' and sent by post to (please ask for a receipt or Gift Aid form if required):

Mr R Dugdale, Yew Trees, Harmsworth Farm, Botley Road, Curbridge, Southampton SO30 2HB

So please dig deep and donate now. Please help us complete this project on time for these children.

Thank you
