Story
By the grace of Allah SWT I was blessed with a chance to go to Syria in February 2018 with Lady Zainab Helping Hands (LZHH) and WF-Aid as an aid worker alongside a team of volunteers. The aim of the trip had been to help the displaced widows and children of the war-torn Sayyeda Zainab (AS) area, as many of them are homeless and have no protection against the bitter cold of winter.
Nothing had prepared me for the realities of the hardship the people are facing. Families live in squalor, deprived of basic neccessities and children play in rusty filthy ruins of what must have been a playground once. Many of the men have been killed while the widows are trying to fend for themselves in order to clothe and feed their children. The few schools that are available are under-resourced.
My personal aim of this trip had been to provide aid to the special needs children in the area who are in desperate need of resources to help them in their everyday lives and learning. Many of these children have witnessed traumatic events and are now suffering from the after effects. The visit to the special needs school was the highlight of my trip. The children were in a makeshift school with dark dingy classrooms and only thin strip lights for lighting. Having taken toys and resources for them and seeing their faces light up,the tears in the teachers eyes is a sight I can never forget.
The people of Syria need our help to bring hope and happiness back in their lives. With your help, inshaAllah we can bring back some happiness to the women and children of Syria and play a major part in giving them a better chance at life.
Please donate generously and know that no amount is too little as every penny will play a part in changing their lives.
