KEEN is an organisation that provides weekly sporting and recreational activities for children and adults with special needs in Oxfordshire. We aim to provide fun and a sense of inclusion to people with all levels and types of disability, relying heavily on our wonderful volunteers to do so.

Story

A song is not worth a dollar.

But it is Worth a Life.

Here's the idea: Someone makes a song.

ShareMusic provides the tools to share it with the world.

If your friends, or their friends, or their friends like it, they donate to charity.

Simple.

Like all good ideas.

It's also about a lot more...music, and life!™

KEEN

Without a doubt, my favourite thing I ever did at university was KEEN.

It was a good reason not to get a hangover from Saturday night - Sunday morning, you'd go out and help kids with special needs play sports. For someone not so great at sports (other than fencing, which I'm not half-bad at), it was a rare opportunity to um...not be the worst?

Not that anyone noticed but me!

I've never met a nicer group of people in my life. I have an abiding memory of a girl who took, and needed, maybe, 45 seconds just to kick a football (soccer ball, oh Americans) six inches. Everyone just stopped, and waited for her. Which is to say, everyone was hyper-considerate of everyone else. Everyone's needs, and special needs, and abilities, were different, and everyone watched out for everyone else, it seemed.

You left there, and your girlfriend was having an anxiety attack about what dress to wear to some ball or something, and you just couldn't even care anymore...your values were totally aligned with...well, what they should be!

Or, if you know Oxford at all well, the simple description is this: KEEN was and is the antithesis of, and the antidote for, the Union - the polar opposite!

So, anyway, to the extent - and it was a rather limited one - I was able to inspire better playing of sports in some of these kids, the reward I got was infinitely greater - being around the most considerate group of people I've ever known in my life.

The students who were helping were nice, too (!), but, to my mind, at least, it was the kids we were supposedly helping who were giving the most.

This charity is all about doing - the money needed is infinitesimal, but since I'm not at Oxford myself right now, the most I can contribute is this way...
