Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Sadly, my lovely sister Shona and her husband Tom unexpectedly lost their beautiful little baby boy Rory, who was still born in August which has been a devastating time for them and our entire family.  After an entirely normal pregnancy, it was completely unexplained.

I guess I wasn't aware of the heartbreaking decisions that need to be made within the first few days.  Instead of taking your new baby home, parents are faced with consenting to a post-mortem, specific funeral arrangements and having to register the birth, and death of their beloved little baby.  Unfortunately there is a lack of post-natal support for parents in this situation, at a time when mental health support is most needed.

The death of a baby is not rare. Every day in the UK around 15 babies die before, during or soon after birth. That means every 90 minutes a family is faced with the devastation of the death of their baby.

Sands provide free support to anyone affected by the death of a baby through a national helpline, forum and network of support groups.

They train thousands of midwives, doctors and other professionals so that they can provide the care and support parents desperately need when their baby has died.

Sands also fund research to reduce the number of babies who die every day in the UK.

But there is much more work to be done so any donations will go a long way in helping this wonderful charity.
