My story

My name is Sharon Payne, and as you are probably aware by now, I have shaved my hair off.

I have a video of when I shaved my hair off uploaded to YouTube, but also here are a few bullet points as to why I have done this. Hopefully it will give you a better understanding as to why this means so much to me:

Reason 1. To raise money for The Little Princess Trust. More information on what this charity is about is on The Little Princess Trust website. They are a charity who create real hair wigs for children suffering from hair loss due to cancer treatement, alopecia and leukemia. They provide these wigs for free.

Reason 2. I have donated my hair to The Little Princess Trust. They will send my hair to China and get it made into a real hair wig. Then it will be shipped back and given to a child/teenager suffering from hair loss in the UK.

Reason 3. I want to raise awareness for all people suffering from hair loss. I felt that shaving my hair was the best way to do this. It definitely brings the shock factor for people. I feel it is more practical then doing a sponsored run.

Reason 4. I have lost many family/friends to cancer, but I also have family/friends who survived it! I am doing it in memory of my lost ones: our family friend Cath Spencer, a special little boy Luvin Perera, my father-in-law Tim Hillier, and my sister Sara Payne. This is also for my dear friend at the moment who is undergoing chemotherapy. He is only 18.

Reason 5. I have a friend who has alopecia. She hides behind hats/scarves/bandanas. I want to give her that confidence that we all can still be beautiful without hair.

Reason 6. Society is too hung up on hair - undoubtedly it is a beauty statement. So for those who have hair loss especially girls/women, it is an extremely hard thing to come to terms with. A lot of people were begging me not shave my hair, mainly because I have thick, curly hair. But that's what gave me more reason to do it. It is hair, it will grow back, so why not give someone a chance to have hair like me? I am lucky my hair will grow back within a few months, for others, they aren't so lucky.

Reason 7. I don't need to worry about shampoo or what products I use in my hair to keep it healthy. When I wake up in the morning, I’m pretty much already ready! I save myself some time and money, so that’s definitely a win.

Reason 8. This has already been a challenge over 2 weeks, and I have learnt so much about myself. This means a lot to me. I can say I have a rough understanding now on how tough hair loss must be for women.

Reason 9. This gives me an excuse to really think about how I dress, and invest in more earrings and hats. Win number 2.

Reason 10. I hope this will touch people and make a real impact about hair loss and the charity. This is definitely something different then a sponsored run.

Thank you for your donation and thank you for taking the time to look at my page. Your donation will show on the bottom of this page along with an optional message. Please note: although Gift Aid may seem like you will be paying +amount to your current donation, that is not the case! The Little Princess Trust will be able to reclaim tax from your donation so that your entire donation will go towards the charity and none to the Government! Please make sure you accept Gift Aid with your donation!

Thank you for your help.

Love and kind wishes,

Sharon
