WHY THE WESTON PARK CANCER CHARITY?

It is now evidenced that ONE in TWO people are suffering or will suffer from cancer at some time in their lives. We in Sheffield are lucky to have the wonderful Weston Park Cancer Hospital that provides unrivalled care to sufferers of cancer from the Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire regions. At The Sheffield College, many of our staff members, students and family members have had their lives affected by this awful illness. However, during their treatment they have benefited from the fantastic support given from this wonderful charity and are indebted to them for this. The Weston Park Cancer Charity provides different areas of support to the hospital and as we are sure anyone whose experienced their support would agree, play a vital role in the help of patients and families through often traumatic times. In order to maintain this fantastic service, under ever-increasing numbers, the charity relies heavily on the ongoing support and donations for of events such as ours.

From funding life-saving research to providing practical help and emotional support, it’s the charities aim to care in every sense for their patients and their families. Their help is free. This is what they do.

WHAT IS 'THE 3 PEAKS CHALLENGE'?

'The National 3 Peaks Challenge' is a nationally recognised walk in which the summit of the 3 biggest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales are scaled in under 24 hours. As can be seen below this is no easy challenge and will be a real test to the team. We are hoping that you're generosity can inspire us to maintain our training and motivate us to complete the event.

The three mountains are:

• Snowdon, in Wales (1085m)
• Scafell Pike, in England (978m)
• Ben Nevis, in Scotland (1345m)

The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft) - twice the ascent of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, over a similar total walking distance. The total driving distance is 462 miles. (More information below)
