Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This is my first full marathon and eight weeks into my gruelling training plan I'm still pinching myself when I remember it's 26 miles! However, every step through the mud, rain and early starts I know it's for an incredible cause...
Neuroblastoma is a rare cancer that affects children, mostly under the age of 5 years old. It's aggressive and malignant, with half of all cases classified as high risk, necessitating immediate treatment often from the more intensive end of the treatment spectrum. These can include chemotherapy, surgery, myeloablative radiation, and stem-cell transplants, with some of these treatments only available in the US. Around a fifth of high risk neuroblastoma cases, however, will be resistant to initial therapy. Therefore, many children will never reach remission and many of those who do will subsequently relapse. Relapsed neuroblastoma is the most dangerous form of the disease, this is often down to minimal residual disease (MRD) which has resisted chemotherapy and radiatiotherapy.
This is what beautiful little Ruby is currently battling. So please donate whatever you can to help me fundraise for the NCCA UK to help Ruby, and other children like her, should she need to follow an expensive treatment path. With a high risk neuroblastoma diagnosis, the probability of relapse is high for Ruby. With our support the NCCA UK can ensure that every possible avenue for treatment is open to her.
