Shelley's first Marathon

Liverpool Rock'n'Roll Marathon 2017 · 28 May 2017 ·
I am running my first marathon as my cousin's daughter (and my goddaughter) Heidi was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) in September 2015 at the age of 2. She has coped brilliantly with all the intense chemo, lumbar punctures, blood transfusions, hospital stays etc, and she has finally reached the Maintenance stage of treatment which she will continue with, until February 2018.
CLIC Sargent have supported Paula, Ian and Heidi since the start of their childhood cancer journey...
-via community nurses which enable some of Heidi's treatment to be carried out at home / nursery (she is now well enough to return for a couple of sessions a week)
-via a dedicated social worker who has helped with so many aspects from family support, sorting out benefits and arranging holidays and breaks (which they can now start to do having reached Maintenance chemotherapy treatment)
Although Heidi's prognosis is excellent, not all children with cancer will have the same outcome. We know that CLIC Sargent offer an amazing support network to all the families and they want to extend this to support EVERY child and family on their journey following a cancer diagnosis.
