Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am walking across spain from the 27th April to 4th June. It is 800 km in total from the Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostela. I am giving it everything I have got to hike all this way to raise money for the Amani Children's home in Tanzania.
After a trip from South Africa to Nairobi at the beginning of this year, I headed home, changed forever by all that I had seen and learnt from this beautiful country. Some of us on the trip had talked about giving back to the people in some way, but it always seems too hard, and sounds good at the time, but is soon forgotten about when the excitement of the trip is over. I swore that I wouldn't forget and that I would find a way to give back a little.
The people I met on this trip are some of the happiest I have ever had the privilege to get to know. I learnt so much from their simple philosophies, and their passion for their country.
One little boy in particular tugged at my heart. We were walking through the Ushoto hills and a little boy, about 7 years of age was tagging along with us and constantly asking the guide a million questions.
I asked the guide what was he asking, and he said to me, oh that's Zafari, he always follows me, he wants to be a guide when he grows up and he is always asking questions about it.
I asked would it be possible for Zafari to have his dream and the guide said no, this is a poor village and there is no money for Zafari's education.
I found out it would only cost about $1000 Aust for Zafari to have his entire education and also for the cost of guide school when he was old enough.
I promised I would do something to help.
Donating through JustGiving is really simple and it's totally secure. Your details are safe – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation. So it’s the easiest way for me to get money to the charity.
The Amani children's home in Tanzania is where all the money will go. There are many kids there just like Zafari who want and need a chance for a better life. I went to the home and played soccer with the kids and I will never forget it. You can check out Amani on http://amanikids.org/
I will also be making sure that Zafari gets his education and a chance to be a guide like he wants so badly.
Please donate...you will feel so good about it, trust me, there is nothing like the feeling of making a difference, no matter how small!
