Story
Six days and six nights. Two hours on, two hours off. A team of 12 with seven in the boat at any one time and five resting. And it's a race!
The two hours on will be rowing in one of the six positions in the boat or coxing (navigating, movitivating and mostly being cold). Every so often I'll pull a 4 hour shift.
The two hours off will be eating, sleeping, queuing for the single loo, and eating a bit more. The sleeping bit will be around 75 minutes during each 2 hour off period, so that will be 75 minutes sleep every four or six hours.
It will probably be cold, it will definitely be damp, it will be very crowded, it will be exhausing, it will be a great test of endurance.
BUT it will never be as tough as some of our guys have it when they are serving our country, and particularly those who don't make it back in one piece.
Being offered the opportunity to join a team and row from London to Paris was a red letter day for me (it happened to be September 11th!) but to be part of the team doing it for Help for Heroes made it extra special.
It's a charity I have always supported and I hope you will support it to by sponsoring me.
