Naiyana's neonatal journey

Shemayne Walker is raising money for The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Charity

Naiyanas neonatal journey · 25 July 2022

We will go 'above and beyond', what is provided by the NHS enhancing patients' experience through additional facilities and an improved environment, additional equipment that can make a real difference to care, opportunities for staff training and to further medical knowledge through research.

Story

A family are fundraising to give back to the Neonatal Unit (NNU) at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, where Naiyana, now age 7, was born at just 25 weeks.

Shemayne gave birth to Naiyana on November 13 2014, she weighed 1lb 8oz. Following an emergency caesarean section at New Cross Hospital Naiyana was rushed straight to the NICU.

She said: “As Naiyana was born at 25 weeks, I expected her to be small, yet I still felt shocked by her size. Her Dad described it best – she was a “tiny baby bird”. At this early stage I could not picture her as a full-term baby, and soon realised that I had to take things one day at a time.”

They have now written a short story about Naiyana’s journey to raise funds for the NNU at New Cross Hospital.
