Please take two minutes out of your busy schedule to read my story...</span></p> <p><strong><span style="color: #993300;"><span style="font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: #993300;">The Event</span></span></strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">On<span>&nbsp;</span><strong>Saturday, 27th October</strong><span>&nbsp;</span>I will be participating in the 2012 Yogathon at the London Yoga Show in Olympia to raise funds for the <strong><a title="The Rainforest Foundation" href="http://www.rainforestfoundationuk.org/">Rainforest Foundation</a></strong>.</span></p> <p><strong><span style="font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: #993300;">The Challenge</span></strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">We are aiming to complete 108 rounds of the Sun Salutaion a.k.a.<em>Surya Namaskara</em><span>&nbsp;</span>where each round comprises a sequence of two sets of twelve yoga poses.</span></p> <p><strong><span style="font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: #993300;">Why the Rainforest Foundation</span></strong></p> <p><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">I have often helped my daughters with their homework on conservation of our environment. It is now my turn to write a few lines on the topical issue of tropical deforestation.</span></p> <p><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">FACT:&nbsp;</span></strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;">Rainforests once covered 14% of the earth's land surface; now they cover a mere 6%.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">The livelihood of natives and thousands of species of flora and fuana is under constant threat due to the human destruction of our tropical rainforests. The pressure to provide timber<span>&nbsp;</span>and agricultural land as well as activities such as mining and hydropower is ever increasing.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Moreover, deforestation has lead to higher concentrations of carbon dioxide in our atmospehere which has inevitably lead to intensifed global warming through the greenhouse effect.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">The Rainforest Foundation is a non-govenrmental organisation (NGO) &nbsp;whose purpose is <span style="background: white;">&ldquo;to protect and support indigenous peoples and traditional forest populations in their efforts to protect their environment and fulfill their right to a secure, healthy and ecologically sound environment.&rdquo; To date, they&nbsp;have funded projects to preserve a total of 28 million acres of forestland cross the globe.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px;">So please dig deep and donate now to help secure the future of our planet and its future generations.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
