My Daughter Shirelle, was born 11th March 1989 at the University Hospital Of Wales weighing just 2lb 2oz and 14 weeks premature. As parents we went through so many emotions.The birth of your child should be the best day of your life with the most amazing feeling of happiness.

With Shirelle being born so early, the chances of survival were slim at best and the feeling of losing Shirelle was one of the hardest moments of our lives. As parents we couldnt let ourselves get to attached as the chances of survival were so slim. Yet you desperatly want to be able to hold and care for her and keep her safe.

All this and yet we were the lucky ones. One in every 9 babies in the UK is born either premature or sick. A lot of parents are not as lucky as us and their child does not make it. Over 80,000 babies every year with one being admitted to special care every six minutes.

 The staff at the intensive baby care unit were amazing. To these wonderful people it was more than just a job. They put their heart and sole into caring for the Babies and their parents. The care the wonderful staff  gave to Shirelle saved her life and changed our lives for the better. The vital care that babies recieve after birth can have a profound impact on the rest of their lives.

A lot of parents are not fortunate to have the happy outcome that we did and we would like to do something to help increase the chances of more Premature babies being as fortunate as Shirelle.

It is also our way of thanking the wonderful caring staff across the country that do such an unbelievable job and to Bliss for providing a voice for the prem/unwell babies and their families which must be heard.
