Dragon Boat Challenge · 7 August 2011

As the East Midlands’ only hospice for children and young people, we brighten the short lives of babies, children and young people who come to Rainbows. We want them to have fun and make special memories. We are also here to support their loved ones through the most difficult times of their lives.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Shredall SDS Groups JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

The Dragon Boat Challenge takes place on Sunday 7th August 2011 and Shredall are expecting to battle out up to 50 crews over the 200m race course on the River Trent at the Victoria Embankment watched by thousands of spectators.

Dragon boat racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and the fastest growing water activity in Britain today - as well as the most fun! Up to 10 people paddle each 30’ boat with a drummer at the front beating time and a helm at the tail steering a straight course.

Shredall (SDS) have a special place for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People and as any parent will tell you, to look into the eyes of a sick child is a deeply moving experience. To know your child has a limited life must be the greatest human challenge any of us could imagine. If a family ever has to cope with this, Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People will be there for them.

Rainbows is the only children's hospice in the East Midlands and cares for over 220 local children and their families every year. An incredible team helps to control symptoms, improve quality of life and provide end of life care. To provide such a high level of expertise and professional care costs £3.8 million a year. Rainbows gets less than 15% of its funding from the government and therefore relies almost solely on the generosity of members of the public, fundraising events and sponsorship.

Please dig deep and donate now.
