Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!

Barefeet are currently going through a transition from a small grassroots NGO working with an established team, towards a more professional and effective organisation that can reach more children and have all their programmes fully and sustainably funded and running with adequate quality and capacity. During this period Barefeet have highlighted the need to employ a Development Coordinator, who can concentrate on organisational development, strategic planning, sustainable funding streams and partnerships, and take a leading role in the development of ‘The Barefeet Youth Village’.  This volunteer post is for 12 months initially, with a review at 6 months to establish whether the post needs to be extended.  An appointed person will be trained to continue in a similar role after this Volunteer post finishes.

“All key management staff are artists and are excellent in delivering the essential programmatic side of the organisations development. However we have not had the opportunity to have a full time staff member solely focusing in the overall organisation development and growth, and as a result we feel we have not advanced as far as we could have, given the quality and strength of our programmes. This will be the first time we have employed someone in this role and feel the role will grow and develop.” Adam McGuigan, Artistic Director Barefeet Theatre.

Having previously volunteered with Barefeet in a different capacity at their annual Youth Arts Festivals, I have seen first-hand the real and vital impact their work has with at-risk children and young people in Zambia.  I was therefore delighted when Barefeet approached me to ask if I would be interested in this new role, and to support the organisation in the next stage of their development.

Even though this is a volunteer position, there are basic costs that need covering to live in Lusaka (the capitol of Zambia) for 12 months.  I am able to cover some of these costs myself such as; flights, visa, and health insurance.  Together we are looking for funding to cover the remaining basic living costs such as; accommodation, food and local transport, which we estimate to total £7,560 for 12 months (£630 per month).
