Hello Everyone
I have committed to running the Virgin London Marathon on the 25th April 2010. I am sure most of you are asking, why would anyone voluntarily run a brutal 26.2 mile marathon race? 26.2 miles is a long way. The runner's feet will slam into the hard road about 26,000 times each. All this pounding makes the runner's feet sore. It also hurts the ankles, legs, knees, hips, and so forth. Why would any sane person even think of trying to run a marathon? Are marathoners even remotely sane?
The answer is simple. Because it's hard and it's there :-) We all need challenges and the sense of euphoria that comes from achieving a difficult personal goal
So yeah I am a nutter but more importantly I am doing it for a good cause. I will be running for the Rainforest Foundation(www.rainforestfoundationuk.org. The Rainforest Foundation works to protect the world's rainforests by enabling people living in and around them to fulfil their rights to land, life and livelihood. The mission of the Rainforest Foundation UK is to support indigenous peoples and traditional populations of the world's rainforest in their efforts to protect their environment and fulfill their rights to land, life and livelihood.
The Rainforest Foundation UK (RFUK) works in more than 20 countries across three continents(Africa, South America & Asia) providing financial support for practical projects run by local organisations and indigenous peoples' associations. Every project is different, but they all share the aim of securing forest peoples' rights and livelihoods, and protecting and sustainably managing tropical rainforests.
