My story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
On 27th September 2012 we embarked on the biggest challenge of our lifetime - to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the world's highest free-standing mountain. The proceeds of our trek will benefit a very special charity founded by a very special young lady who we are honoured to call our friend.
Alice was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma 5 years ago. 18months ago she was told that her cancer was terminal and so she published a bucket list blog of things she wanted to do and share with friends and family and also a great number of other things that would benefit many other people. This was no ordinary list - she has encouraged over 40,000 people to join the bone marrow register, she has met Take That and she has enjoyed special times with her dog Mabel. See the whole list at http://alicepyne.blogspot.co.uk/.
But that's not all, Alice has also founded her own charity, Alice's Escapes with the aim to provide complimentary holidays in the Lake District for seriously ill children and their families.
It is the aim that we will raise enough money through our trek to buy a static caravan so that Alice's Charity can offer as many families the chance to 'escape' and enjoy special family time together.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now and help us make Alice's wishes come true.
My updates 3
The remaining 10 shuffled on and made it to the summit. Truly an experience of a lifetime. The amazing support we have had from friends and family really boosted us on our way. Thank you all so much. We are now looking forward to choosing a caravan with Alice for the charity.
We've done it - Team Alice has conquered Kilimanjaro! It really was the toughest experience ever. With 'grit, courage & determination' all 15 trekkers made it to Barafu Camp 4800m. Sadly 5 members were badly affected by extreme exhaustion & altitude sickness & had to stop.
Less than a month to go now, it's a mixture of nerves and excitement! We're so grateful for all of the amazing donations, they will really help encourage us up that little hill!
