Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Saturday 24th AprilI I competed in the Yorkshire Dales Three Peaks Fell Race, hitting the summits of Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.
The race is 24 miles long and climbs over 5000 ft in total and is most commonly done as a walk with people aiming to complete the route in a very respectable 10 hours. I hoped to complete the race in under 4 hours 30 mins....
I finished, shattered and sore but in 4 hours and 19 mins, 213th out of 705 starters!
Warm weather and terrible cramp set in at about 13 miles up and down Whernside but with a little team spirit from Kevin Holt, managed to get moving again and finish with a time that I am proud of, for now! It certainly was the biggest challenge I have ever done!! I miss the short, flat and fast races!!!
I decided to use this as an opportunity to raise money for the Alzheimers Society as my Nan died of Alzheimers in 2007. I witnessed my once clever, caring and fun loving Nan turn into a woman who was more like a naughty child and shadow of her former self, barely recognisible to look at and no mental capacity to even bring about a smile. More recently a friend of mines wife of 60 years died after a long battle with the disease and I saw again just how much of a strain caring for a loved one can put on exhausted and frail partners, even with all the love and best intentions.
If raising money for the Alzheimers Society enables other peoples relatives to receive better care, support and help to provide more assistance to the members of family who end up caring so passionately for their relatives then that will be a step in the right direction.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Please dig deep and support my challenge to make all the hard work put in seem even more worthwhile!
Thank You
Simon
